NDOMA-EGBA CALLS FOR STRONGER NIGERIA-TAIWAN COOPERATION IN SMART AGRICULTURE

Former Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, has called for stronger cooperation between Nigeria and Taiwan in the area of smart agriculture, saying the adoption of modern technology could help transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector and improve food production.

Ndoma-Egba made the call while highlighting the need for Nigeria to take greater advantage of Taiwan’s experience in agricultural technology and innovation. He noted that the country’s agricultural challenges require solutions that go beyond traditional farming methods, particularly as Nigeria continues to face pressure to increase food production and achieve greater food security.

He stressed the importance of introducing technologies that can improve productivity, reduce waste and make farming more efficient. According to him, areas such as digital farming, modern irrigation, mechanisation, data-driven agriculture and other technology-based solutions could help Nigerian farmers produce more while making better use of available resources.

The former Senate Leader also pointed to the potential benefits of deeper collaboration between Nigerian institutions, farmers and Taiwanese technology providers. Such partnerships, he said, could support the transfer of knowledge and skills while encouraging investment and the development of locally relevant agricultural technologies.

He urged stakeholders in both countries to strengthen existing ties and explore new areas of cooperation that could contribute to Nigeria’s economic development. A deeper Nigeria-Taiwan partnership in smart agriculture, he noted, could help modernise farming, create employment opportunities and support the country’s broader efforts to achieve sustainable food production.
