Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has criticised President Bola Tinubu for maintaining silence on pressing national issues, urging the President to engage directly with the Nigerian people to build trust and address their concerns.

Ndume made the remarks on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja. He expressed disappointment over what he described as the President’s aloofness in the face of economic hardship, insecurity, and rising cost of living.

“President Tinubu needs to speak directly to Nigerians. His silence is being interpreted as indifference. The people want to hear from him, understand his vision, and know what he is doing to alleviate their suffering,” Ndume stated.

The Borno South senator, who has been vocal on national issues, called for more transparency and regular public briefings from the President. He said direct engagement would help reduce tension and misinformation in the polity.

Ndume also urged the government to take urgent steps to address the current economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and the high cost of food and fuel. He warned that continued silence and inaction could lead to greater public discontent.

The senator’s comments have elicited mixed reactions, with some political observers agreeing that the President needs to communicate more effectively, while others believe the government is already implementing reforms that will yield positive results in the long run.

The Presidency has not yet responded to Ndume’s criticism. However, sources close to the President say Tinubu remains focused on delivering his Renewed Hope Agenda and will address the nation at the appropriate time.

As economic pressures continue to mount, calls for greater public engagement from the President are expected to grow louder. Senator Ndume’s intervention is seen by many as a timely reminder of the importance of communication in governance.
