Following Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ned Nwoko of Delta North has called on the governor to abandon old political practices. In a statement issued after Oborevwori's switch to the APC, Nwoko urged the governor to ensure that this move marks a fresh and transformative approach to governance.

While Nwoko expressed approval of Oborevwori’s decision to leave the PDP, he stressed the importance of leaving behind the political deals that contributed to the PDP’s downfall in Delta State. He encouraged the governor to shift from "survival politics" to a focus on creating a lasting legacy. According to Nwoko, such a change is crucial to avoid repeating the mistakes that led to the decline of the opposition party.

“Old politics, old habits, and the past deals that caused the PDP’s gradual collapse in Delta must be left behind,” Nwoko advised.

Highlighting APC’s vision for the state, Nwoko also pointed to the party’s ongoing efforts to push for constitutional amendments, including the creation of Anioma and New Delta states. He reminded the governor that these reforms had already been laid out by the party’s leadership long before Oborevwori’s defection, underscoring the APC’s commitment to addressing historical imbalances and regional marginalization.

In his message to Oborevwori, Nwoko urged the governor to take on a renewed sense of purpose. He called for the governor to champion constitutional reforms, promote fairness, and lead the way for inclusive development and progressive governance in Delta State.

As the political scene in the state continues to shift, all eyes will be on Governor Oborevwori as he navigates his new role in the APC and the future direction of Delta politics, especially with the 2027 presidential elections on the horizon.
