NEMA RECEIVES 181 NIGERIAN RETURNEES FROM LIBYA
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 181 Nigerian returnees from Tripoli, Libya, under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration in partnership with the Federal Government.
The agency confirmed this in a statement shared on its X account on Tuesday, noting that the returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on April 27, 2026, at about 20:13 hours.
According to NEMA, the Lagos Operations Office coordinated the reception exercise in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
It said the returnees were flown in aboard an Air Buraq aircraft and were properly documented upon arrival by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service through biometric registration.
The agency said the returnees included 159 adults, 12 children, and 10 infants, with a mix of males and females across all categories.
NEMA added that immediate humanitarian support was provided, including food, potable water, medical attention, ambulance services, and counselling for reintegration.
It said logistics support and luggage handling services were also offered to ensure a smooth and orderly reception process.
The agency noted that the exercise was carried out in an organised manner through coordination among relevant government and international partners.
It further stated that the operation reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified, and humane return of Nigerian citizens stranded abroad.
