Jigawa State has welcomed a new Commissioner of Police, as CP Muhammed Dahiru officially assumed duty this week as the 24th Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, announced the development in a statement, noting that CP Dahiru takes over from CP AT Abdullahi, who recently retired after a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.

Born on June 20, 1966, in Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State, CP Dahiru comes with a strong background in law enforcement. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bayero University Kano (1984–1988) and completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos between 1988 and 1989.

His policing career began in 1992 when he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent and trained at the Police Academy Annex in Kaduna. Over the years, CP Dahiru has held various strategic roles, leading operational and investigative teams across different commands nationwide.

As he takes charge in Jigawa, CP Dahiru has promised to prioritize:
Inter-agency collaboration
Community partnerships
Intelligence-led policing
Respect for human rights

He emphasized that these strategies align with the broader vision of the Nigeria Police Force under its current leadership.

The new CP also called on residents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to support the police in maintaining peace and security throughout Jigawa State.

Reassuring the public of the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, he urged citizens to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the command’s emergency contacts.

As CP Dahiru begins his tenure, many in Jigawa are hopeful that his experience and commitment will further strengthen security and community trust across the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
