NIA URGES LAGOS FLOOD VICTIMS TO FILE INSURANCE CLAIMS PROMPTLY
The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has called on victims of recent flooding in Lagos State to take advantage of their insurance policies by filing claims without delay.
The association emphasised that timely submission of claims is crucial for quick assessment and settlement, helping affected individuals and businesses recover faster from the devastating impact of the floods. NIA urged policyholders to contact their insurers with relevant documentation, including photographs of damaged property and police reports where applicable.
Officials noted that many residents and businesses in flood-prone areas had insurance cover that could significantly mitigate their losses if properly activated. The body also encouraged those without insurance to consider protective policies for the future, given the increasing frequency of climate-related disasters.
The NIA pledged full support to its member companies in ensuring efficient claims processing during this period. It also called for greater public awareness on the importance of insurance in risk management and post-disaster recovery.
The appeal comes as several parts of Lagos continue to deal with the aftermath of heavy rainfall and poor drainage systems, causing substantial damage to homes, vehicles, and commercial properties.
