NIGERAN ATTACKER SET TO JOIN LIVERPOOL.
Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, as Atalanta prepare for a major summer sale that could see the 26-year-old return to the Premier League.
Lookman, who previously featured for Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, has enjoyed a career resurgence in Serie A. His outstanding performances for Atalanta helped secure their UEFA Europa League title and earned him a 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings—firmly establishing him as one of the club’s most valuable players.
With growing interest from top European clubs, Atalanta are said to be preparing for a lucrative transfer window. According to Italian publication Il Giorno, the club’s newly appointed Director of Global Development, John Murtough—formerly of Manchester United—has been tasked with maximizing profits from player sales.
Both Lookman and Brazilian midfielder Ederson are reportedly among those likely to be sold to generate revenue.
Now, with Liverpool leading the chase, Lookman could be set for a sensational comeback to English football, this time as a more refined and impactful player.
Liverpool see Ademola Lookman as a potential high-impact addition to their frontline, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the squad under their incoming manager. Meanwhile, Manchester City and Manchester United are said to be circling Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder, Ederson.
Atalanta have a strong history of profitable transfers to Premier League clubs, having previously sold Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund to Manchester United, Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur, and Timothy Castagne and Caleb Okoli to Leicester City.
If the move is finalised, Lookman would join the select group of Nigerian players to have represented Liverpool—such as Victor Moses—and could inject fresh flair, pace, and goal-scoring threat into the Anfield attack.
