Nigeria and Cyprus have expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in trade, investment and education following the formal accreditation of Nigeria’s envoy to the country.

Ambassador Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu presented her Letters of Credence to Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia on Friday.

Ufochukwu, who also serves as Nigeria’s ambassador to Israel, conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s greetings and pledged to strengthen relations during her assignment.

Welcoming her, Christodoulides said the countries’ friendship rested on shared historical experiences, common principles and lasting connections between their people.

He also recognised Nigeria’s role in promoting dialogue, cooperation and stability across West Africa.

The Cypriot president expressed readiness to work with Nigeria on economic partnerships, educational cooperation and political dialogue, alongside shared challenges requiring international collaboration.

The ceremony formally established Ufochukwu’s authority to represent Nigeria in Cyprus and maintain official communication between both governments.

While the engagement outlined areas for closer cooperation, the reports did not announce specific investment deals, scholarship programmes or implementation timelines.
