Service leadership honours fallen Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I.U. Babangida, confirms treatment for injured officer, and collaborates with state authorities and sister security agencies to track down armed assailants

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has officially confirmed the death of one of its officers following a violent attack by unidentified armed assailants during a routine surveillance patrol in Niger State.

In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the agency identified the deceased officer as Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) I.U. Babangida, who was attached to the Wawa Control Post.

According to official reports, the ambush occurred when two officers conducting border surveillance duties were targeted by gunmen.

While Babangida lost his life in the line of duty, the second officer, Inspector A.K. Musa, sustained severe injuries but managed to escape and is currently receiving intensive medical treatment.

The NIS confirmed that the fallen officer has been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, expressing deep condolences to his family and assuring them of full institutional support during this difficult period.

Service authorities disclosed that joint security operations alongside the Niger State Government and relevant security agencies are actively underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, maintaining that the incident will not deter personnel from safeguarding national borders.
