NIGERIA VS RWANDA: COACH CHELLE HINTS FELIX AGU, BENJAMIN FREDRICK COULD FEATURE IN WCQ
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has dropped a big hint ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday, naming Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredrick as potential inclusions in his matchday lineup.
Both players made their international debut during the Unity Cup clash against Jamaica in May, and their strong performances have since put them on Chelle’s radar for competitive fixtures.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Chelle revealed that he already has a plan for the game and praised the young duo.
“I have a plan in my head, I need to think about this game. Every player in this team can play at any moment – during the game, before the game, after the game,” Chelle told reporters.
“They deserve to be here, they deserve to play this game and, like the captain said, this is an honour for them.”
However, both Agu and Fredrick face stiff competition for starting roles. Agu will have to contend with experienced fullbacks like Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Bruno Onyemaechi, while Fredrick operates in central defence, a position dominated by captain William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, and Chigozie Awaziem.
Chelle did not confirm whether the duo will start, but their inclusion in training discussions signals that the coach could spring a surprise against Rwanda.
Nigeria will be hoping to secure maximum points as they continue their push for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
