Nigeria Would Be In Deeper Trouble Without Prayer – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has emphasized the vital role of prayer in sustaining Nigeria. Speaking during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving service and special prayers for security and paramilitary forces at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye said, “Some ask, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting — where is the result?’ I just laugh. If we hadn’t been praying, Nigeria would be in a much more terrible condition. So let’s not stop.”

He further stated that RCCG operates under a divine shield — a supernatural protection that has preserved the church from disaster since its inception.

“There is a God who governs the affairs of men,” Adeboye said. “If those praying were to stop for just one week, the impact would be frightening. So keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings.”

Preaching on the topic "Shadow of the Almighty," he shared several testimonies illustrating the divine protection over RCCG.

“I don’t preach denominations, but there’s something unique about RCCG. There’s a shield — invisible, yet undeniable — covering this church,” he said. He recalled a miraculous event in the United States where a devastating flood affected 14 of 15 houses in a neighborhood — with the only untouched building being one that hosted an RCCG house fellowship. “Every house was flooded except number eight, where a sign read, ‘House Fellowship of RCCG holds here,’” he noted.

Adeboye also referenced a fire incident in March at Otedola Bridge, Lagos, where several buildings were destroyed — except one RCCG facility that remained standing. “The structures before and after it were consumed, but not the RCCG building. That’s not luck — it’s divine protection,” he affirmed, while the church media displayed images from the incident.

He stressed that while God's protective presence might not always be visible, it is real and powerful for those who dwell in Him. “True security lies in God. Whether in times of peace or turmoil, the Almighty casts His shadow of protection over His people,” he said.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Folu Adeboye led a heartfelt prayer session for the peace and progress of Nigeria and for national leaders. “Let’s ask God to show mercy to our president and grant him peace, so he may lead with ease,” she prayed.

The Thanksgiving service also celebrated members of the nation’s security and paramilitary forces, reaffirming RCCG’s dedication to spiritual intercession for national peace and divine preservation.
