The Nigerian Armed Forces have achieved a major victory against the notorious terrorist network led by Bello Turji in the Northwest, neutralizing his second-in-command and several key lieutenants in a series of coordinated military strikes under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to a statement by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the successful operation, conducted between January 20 and 21, targeted terrorist hideouts in Sokoto and Zamfara states.

“Troops successfully neutralized Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to Bello Turji, while also inflicting terminal injuries on Dosso, Turji’s younger brother, and Danbokolo, one of his closest allies. Additionally, commanders such as Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe were eliminated,” the statement revealed.

The military operation also led to the elimination of over 24 terrorists fleeing from Turji’s camp in Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Sokoto State, and the Gidan Rijiya area in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State.

In a separate encounter at Fakai high ground, troops neutralized Suleiman, a prominent loyalist of the late terrorist leader Halilu Sububu. Suleiman was leading a reinforcement team to rescue Turji’s camp when he was killed in a firefight.

Major General Buba emphasized the significance of these victories, describing them as a substantial blow to the terrorist network responsible for widespread kidnappings and violent attacks across the Northwest. Communities in Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni LGAs of Zamfara and Sokoto states have borne the brunt of these criminal activities.

“The neutralization of Turji’s second-in-command, his key allies, and several commanders is a critical step in dismantling this dangerous network. Troops remain resolute in their mission to create an atmosphere of safety and security for all citizens,” Buba stated.

This strategic military action underscores the Armed Forces’ determination to restore peace and stability to the Northwest region, marking a turning point in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
