NIGERIAN ARMY DENIES ALLEGED ARMED ROBBER IN ABIA IS A SOLDIER
The Headquarters of 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, has responded to a trending report—particularly on social media—alleging that an individual identified as Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka Peter was involved in armed robbery.
The suspect was claimed, in a widely circulated video, to be a soldier attached to the 14 Brigade in Ohafia, Abia State.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army firmly denied the claim, noting that all its personnel are properly identified by service numbers. It further clarified that no unit under the 14 Brigade corresponds with the details provided by the suspect during interrogation.
The statement, signed by Captain Mazinho Attah, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations in Ohafia, condemned the act of impersonation.
According to him, preliminary investigations and available records indicate that the suspect is a criminal impersonator falsely presenting himself as a member of the Nigerian Army in order to carry out unlawful activities.
He stressed that the Nigerian Army does not tolerate such acts and strongly condemns all forms of impersonation and criminal behavior.
Captain Attah also reaffirmed that the Army upholds strict standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability. He added that any verified personnel found guilty of misconduct would be subjected to due process in line with existing military laws and regulations.
He urged the public to disregard claims linking the suspect to the Nigerian Army and encouraged citizens to report individuals suspected of impersonating military personnel to the nearest security agency for swift action.
