Shitta Waliu Aderibigbe, a Nigerian national, along with his company, Fanzine Educational Consult, has been arraigned before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Jabi over allegations of visa fraud and a marriage scam involving the British Embassy.

The case, filed by the Inspector-General of Police, includes a two-count charge against Aderibigbe and his firm. During his appearance before Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Court documents reveal that Aderibigbe allegedly provided false information by claiming that Emmanuel Makinde Opeyemi was married to Dolapo Afussat Yusuf in an effort to facilitate a UK visa application.

According to the police, the false claim posed a threat to Emmanuel Makinde Opeyemi’s immigration status and could have resulted in his deportation from the United Kingdom.

The charges, which stem from an incident that allegedly took place in January 2022, are punishable under Sections 97(1) and 140 of the Penal Code Act.

The charge sheet reads in part: "You, Shitta Waliu Aderibigbe, Fanzine Educational Consult, and Dolapo Afussat Yusuf (at large) did give false information to the British Embassy... an act you knew to be unlawful."

Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo granted Aderibigbe bail set at ₦1 million, with the condition that he provides two sureties. The sureties must be civil servants of at least Grade Level 9 and must reside within the Federal Capital Territory. Additionally, they are required to submit passport photographs to the court.

Justice Oyeyipo adjourned the case until June 11 for further proceedings. Meanwhile, Miss Yusuf, who is also named as a co-accused, remains at large.

If found guilty, Aderibigbe could face penalties under the Penal Code for conspiracy and for furnishing false information to public authorities.
