NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT HIKES PASSPORT FEES FROM SEPTEMBER 1
Starting September 1, 2024, Nigerians applying for new passports in the country will have to pay more as the Federal Government has announced an upward review of passport fees.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) revealed the development in a statement signed by its spokesperson, A.S. Akinlabi, explaining that the new charges are meant to improve the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, which is set to roll out fully by September 1, 2025.
Under the new fee structure:
A 32-page passport with a 5-year validity will now cost ₦100,000.
A 64-page passport with a 10-year validity will now cost ₦200,000.
However, Nigerians living abroad will not be affected by this change. Their passport application fees remain the same:
$150 for a 32-page passport (5 years).
$230 for a 64-page passport (10 years).
The Immigration Service assured Nigerians that despite the increment, its priority remains to deliver reliable and efficient passport services while ensuring accessibility for all citizens.
With this adjustment, many Nigerians are expected to weigh the cost against the convenience of longer validity periods, while others may express concerns about affordability.
