NIGERIAN SENATE MOVES TO ENFORCE DEATH PENALTY FOR KIDNAPPERS
In a bold move to combat rising insecurity, the Nigerian Senate has proposed that kidnapping be classified as an act of terrorism, with the death penalty automatically applied to anyone convicted.
During Wednesday’s plenary session, senators agreed that the Terrorism Act should be amended to ensure kidnappers face the harshest possible punishment. The resolution comes amid growing concerns over the surge in abductions across the country.
“The resolution mandates that, upon conviction for kidnapping, the death penalty must be enforced,” the Senate stated, emphasizing that this measure is designed to serve as a strong deterrent and send a clear warning to criminals.
Lawmakers hope that the move will curb the menace of kidnapping and reassure Nigerians that the government is taking decisive steps to protect citizens and uphold justice.
