NIGERIAN STUDENT DIES AFTER ASTHMA ATTACK WHILE CELEBRATING BIRTHDAY WITH FRIENDS IN LONDON
A 26-year-old Nigerian graduate, Obanyeli Jesse Chima, has died after suffering a severe asthma attack while preparing to celebrate his birthday with friends in London.
Chima had recently completed a master’s degree in Public Health and was awaiting graduation.
According to his friend Eva, he developed breathing difficulties on September 19 while the group was gathering to celebrate their closely spaced birthdays.
He collapsed as a friend called emergency services. Those present performed CPR with guidance from ambulance operators before he was taken to hospital and placed on life support.
Eva said doctors later confirmed that Chima was brain-dead. He died on September 25.
Friends remembered him as lively and much loved. He had also worked at Chelsea Football Club, the team he supported.
His family had been preparing for his graduation but is now making arrangements for his burial.
Friends have launched a fundraiser with a £9,000 target to help return his body to Nigeria and cover related expenses.
The appeal aims to ease the financial burden on his family and allow them to lay him to rest at home.
