NIMASA UNVEILS PORTAL FOR SEAFARERS’ DISCHARGE BOOK PROCESSING
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has launched a new online portal to streamline the processing and issuance of seafarers’ discharge books, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks in the maritime sector.
The digital platform, unveiled by NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, allows qualified seafarers to apply, track, and receive their discharge books electronically, eliminating the need for prolonged physical visits to the agency’s offices. “This initiative is part of our commitment to digital transformation and improved service delivery,” Mobereola said.
The portal is expected to significantly cut processing time from weeks to days, boost transparency, and support Nigeria’s efforts to meet international maritime labour standards. It also includes features for verification and integration with other maritime databases.
Seafarers and maritime stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a major relief that will enhance professionalism and opportunities in the blue economy. NIMASA urged all eligible seafarers to utilise the platform and report any challenges for immediate resolution.
The launch aligns with broader government digitalisation drives across key sectors to improve ease of doing business and service efficiency.
