NIMET FORECASTS NATIONWIDE THUNDERSTORMS AND RAINFALL FOR THREE DAYS

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weather outlook issued on Sunday in Abuja, the agency indicated that isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected on Monday morning in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states.

Later in the afternoon and evening, similar weather conditions are expected across the northern region, with possible flash floods in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe states.

For the central region, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are predicted on Monday morning, alongside moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are likely later in the day across most parts of the region.

In the south, cloudy skies are expected on Monday morning, with moderate rains in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Moderate rainfall is expected later in the day across much of the region.

On Tuesday, the northern region will experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine, while isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba states.

The central region will see cloudy skies with sunshine intervals on Tuesday morning, with rainfall in Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast for Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.

In the south, cloudy conditions with chances of rainfall are expected on Tuesday morning in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta. Light to moderate rains are anticipated later in the day across most states.

On Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are predicted in the northern region, with slim chances of thunderstorms and light rain in Sokoto and Zamfara. By the afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states.

For the central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are forecast on Wednesday morning, with light rains possible in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected later in the day in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.

In the south, cloudy conditions are expected on Wednesday morning, with moderate rainfall likely later in the day.

NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy downpours, while farmers were cautioned against applying fertilisers or pesticides immediately before rain to prevent nutrient loss.

The agency also urged residents to secure loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid standing near tall trees during storms. Airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
