The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze and thunderstorms across the country from Thursday to Saturday.
In its weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja, NiMet forecasted slight dust haze on Thursday over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Yelwa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe States in the northern region. Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Taraba States are expected to experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the period.
“For the central region, sunny and hazy skies are expected throughout the forecast period, while slight dust haze is anticipated over parts of Nasarawa and Plateau States,” the agency said.
In the southern region, sunny skies with a few clouds are expected, along with morning thunderstorms and light rain in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Bayelsa States. Later in the day, thunderstorms with light rain may occur over parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.
On Friday, sunny and hazy conditions will continue across the northern and North Central regions. The southern region will see mostly sunny skies with a few clouds, with afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rain likely over Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, Abia, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet also predicted that Saturday will bring sunny and hazy skies to the northern and North Central regions. In the south, sunny skies with scattered clouds are expected, along with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rain over Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
The agency advised the public to take precautions as dust particles remain suspended in the air. People with asthma or respiratory conditions should exercise caution. Drivers are urged to be careful during rainfall, while airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for planning purposes. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through NiMet’s weather reports or visit www.nimet.gov.ng.
