‘NO ONE LASTS FOREVER’: GEORGE CALLS FOR HUMILITY AMID PDP POWER STRUGGLE

Ahead of moves to reconcile factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George has reminded party leaders involved in its ongoing crisis that they are “mere mortals” and should not act as if they are untouchable.

George further likened political leaders to “dustbins,” emphasizing that no one remains in power forever and that positions of authority are temporary.

With the 2027 general election approaching and parties preparing to conduct primaries, the PDP is working to resolve internal disputes and allow aspirants to contest party positions without fear of legal challenges.

One major hurdle is the disagreement between the faction aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, which supports an outright second term for President Bola Tinubu, and the Kabiru Turaki-led faction, which intends to field a presidential candidate. Sources indicate that the Wike faction may insist that Turaki’s group endorse President Tinubu as part of any reconciliation deal.

Speaking on Arise News, Bode George stressed that political office is temporary and should serve the broader democratic purpose. He said, “Leaders are here only for a period, and their duty is to ensure governance benefits the people. Nobody with personal interest will last forever in power. If you think you are deceiving us, it will eventually be revealed.”

He added, “Leaders are like dustbins. Holding positions such as president, governor, or minister does not place anyone above accountability. We are all human, and it is essential to engage constructively. We are fortunate that some founding fathers are still alive to remind us of the purpose for which the PDP was established.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
