NOC AND NSSF LAUNCH OLYMPIC VALUES TRAINING PROGRAMME IN KANO
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) have begun a special training programme to teach Olympic values to young athletes and students in Kano State.
The programme, which kicked off on Thursday, aims to instil core Olympic principles such as excellence, friendship, respect, fair play, and discipline among school children and upcoming sports talents.
Officials from both organisations said the training will help build character in young people beyond just physical sports. Participants will learn how to apply Olympic values in their daily lives, in school, and in competitive sports.
The initiative targets students, school sports teachers, and coaches across Kano. It forms part of a wider effort to promote ethical sportsmanship and positive youth development through sports in Nigeria.
Speaking at the launch, organisers emphasised that building strong moral values in young athletes will help reduce issues such as cheating, violence, and indiscipline in Nigerian sports. They believe early training in Olympic ideals can produce not just better athletes, but better citizens.
This programme is expected to run for several days with interactive sessions, workshops, and practical activities. Similar trainings are planned for other states in the coming months.
The collaboration between the NOC and NSSF highlights the growing focus on using sports to shape the character of Nigerian youths, especially at the grassroots level.
Participants at the Kano training expressed excitement about the programme, saying it will help them become more disciplined and respectful both on and off the field.
The initiative is another step towards preparing Nigeria’s young generation for future national and international competitions while building stronger societal values.
