Veteran Nollywood filmmaker and media entrepreneur Fidelis Duker has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 elections.

Duker is seeking to represent the Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency in Cross River under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The filmmaker officially joined the race after obtaining his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, marking his transition from the creative industry into active politics.

Speaking on his ambition, Duker said his goal is to use his experience in media, culture, and international relations to drive youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and economic growth within the constituency.

Widely recognised as the founder of the Abuja International Film Festival, Duker has spent decades promoting African storytelling and representing Nigeria at international creative industry events, including the Cannes Film Festival.

Political observers say his entry into the race introduces a new dynamic to the constituency’s political landscape, particularly given his background in entertainment, business, and cultural diplomacy.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
