A northern advocacy group, Arewa Youths, has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), citing the worsening security situation in the region.

The President of the group, Abdul Danbature, made the demand during an interview aired on News Century TV on Wednesday.

Danbature accused the defence minister of behaving more like a social media personality than a military leader. He also claimed that more soldiers have lost their lives under Musa’s tenure than during the time of any previous Defence Minister.

He warned that failing to remove the minister could undermine President Tinubu’s leadership.

According to him, “General Christopher Musa was someone we celebrated greatly when he was appointed as Minister of Defence. However, the current situation has made us withdraw that support.”

“We are calling on him to resign and vacate the position so that a more competent individual can take charge of the Ministry of Defence.”

Danbature further alleged that in the past week alone, more than 100 military personnel had been killed by terrorists, while over 250 people were reportedly abducted.

He cautioned the president to take urgent action, stressing that retaining the defence minister could damage his administration.

“Mr President, if no action is taken, Christopher Musa could undermine your leadership as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If he remains in office, he may go down as the worst Defence Minister the country has ever had,” he said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
