NPA COLLABORATES WITH CLEARING AGENTS TO TACKLE PERSISTENT PORT GRIDLOCK

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has entered into a strategic partnership with clearing agents and other key stakeholders to address the chronic gridlock at the nation’s seaports.

The collaboration aims to streamline cargo clearance procedures, enhance traffic flow on access roads, and improve overall operational efficiency at the ports. During a joint stakeholders’ meeting, NPA officials stressed the importance of coordinated efforts, timely documentation, and strict adherence to standard operating procedures.

Clearing agents pledged full cooperation, including the adoption of digital tools for faster processing and better compliance with traffic regulations. Both parties identified multiple checkpoints, poor infrastructure, and delays in cargo release as major contributors to the ongoing congestion.

The NPA assured participants of continued investment in port modernisation and digitalisation to reduce bottlenecks. Experts believe the partnership will significantly lower business costs, improve turnaround time for vessels, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in regional trade.
