NPFL CLOSES EL-KANEMI WARRIORS STADIUM, IMPOSES N3.5 MILLION FINE OVER SECURITY BREACHES
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a N3.5 million fine on El-Kanemi Warriors and ordered the closure of their Maiduguri stadium to fans for the rest of the 2024/25 season following security violations during their match against Ikorodu City. The game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was overshadowed by incidents involving El-Kanemi supporters, who damaged a vehicle belonging to Ikorodu City and threw objects onto the pitch.
This penalty is part of the NPFL's intensified measures to address security concerns within the league. El-Kanemi Warriors have been given the chance to either accept the ruling or challenge it by requesting a disciplinary panel hearing.
The NPFL’s decision follows a similar response to security issues with other clubs, including Nasarawa United, who were relocated to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe after crowd disturbances during their match against Plateau United. This increased scrutiny of clubs highlights the league's commitment to ensuring the safety of all participants in the competition.
With this fine and the closure of their stadium, El-Kanemi Warriors face significant consequences for the actions of their fans, serving as a stern reminder of the importance of security at football matches.
