The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command, has arraigned one Abigail Brains Timothy for allegedly defrauding multiple victims, including Pastor Adewusi Tibatope Samuel, of N159,108,364 in a visa scam.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Afolabi, the suspect was charged to court after a preliminary investigation confirmed that she deceived victims with false promises of securing visas and work permits.

Afolabi said in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday that “the suspect was arraigned after the command concluded its investigation, which revealed she had no capacity or genuine intention to provide the travel documents as claimed. The court has since ordered her remand at a correctional facility pending trial.”

He explained that Timothy allegedly approached Pastor Adewusi, claiming she could facilitate visas and work permits for 65 individuals introduced by the pastor as his clients. Under this false pretense, she reportedly collected over N159 million intended to cover processing costs.

“Acting on a formal complaint and after weeks of intelligence gathering, NSCDC operatives apprehended the suspect in Benin City on May 25, 2025, after she fled from Lagos to evade arrest,” Afolabi stated.

The NSCDC Intelligence and Investigation Department confirmed that Timothy deliberately set out to defraud her victims, without any real means of fulfilling the promises she made.

Afolabi reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property, and national infrastructure, as well as prosecuting crimes such as economic sabotage, including illegal mining and pipeline vandalism.

NSCDC Commandant in Ekiti, Mr. Toma Enya, also urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with visa agents and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the authorities. He advised against resorting to jungle justice or taking the law into one’s hands.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
