NSCDC DEPLOYS 1,542 PERSONNEL FOR EID SECURITY IN EDO
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Edo State has deployed 1,542 personnel across the state to ensure adequate security during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Edo State Commandant, Saidi Akintayo, disclosed this during a press briefing in Benin on Friday, saying the deployment followed directives from the Commandant General, Ahmed Audi.
According to him, the deployment is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free celebration across all parts of the state.
He explained that personnel were drawn from tactical teams, counter-terrorism units, intelligence and investigation departments, armed squads, agro-rangers, and other specialised formations.
Akintayo said officers had been strategically positioned at Eid prayer grounds, markets, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, worship centres, and other vulnerable locations.
He added that area commanders and divisional officers had been directed to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The commandant warned criminal elements to stay away from Edo State, stressing that the corps was fully prepared to respond decisively to any threat to public peace.
He also appealed to residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
Akintayo commended the Edo State Government, led by Monday Okpebholo, for its support to security agencies, noting that inter-agency collaboration has improved operational effectiveness.
He urged Muslims to observe the Eid al-Adha celebrations peacefully, highlighting the values of sacrifice, unity, and tolerance associated with the festival.
