The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has sealed facilities belonging to Inner Galaxy Steel across the country over alleged involvement in the vandalism and recycling of railway infrastructure and other critical national assets.

The action followed a court order obtained after the arrest of suspects and the recovery of vandalised railway materials allegedly traced to the company’s premises in Birnin Yero, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Speaking during a briefing at the facility, NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the suspects were being investigated for offences including conspiracy, destruction of railway infrastructure, theft, concealment of stolen property, obstruction of railway operations, and alleged financing of terrorism.

According to him, the Corps secured a valid court order and search warrant authorising the sealing of the premises and the transfer of recovered railway sleepers and tracks to the Nigerian Railway Corporation as exhibits for prosecution.

He stated that the facility would remain sealed pending the conclusion of investigations.

Afolabi further disclosed that the court order also covered facilities linked to Inner Galaxy Steel and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd in Abia and Zamfara states, as well as any other branches nationwide connected to the investigation.

The NSCDC alleged that some arrested staff members confessed that vandalised railway materials and other critical infrastructure components were routinely transported to the company’s facilities, where they were melted and recycled into products such as roofing sheets and nails.

He added that some Chinese nationals linked to the matter had been invited to be questioned but had yet to appear before investigators.

NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist efforts to curb vandalism and economic sabotage across the country.

Audi also directed officers handling the case to conduct a thorough and professional investigation, stressing that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and tackling acts of vandalism that threaten public safety, transportation, and economic development.

Railway vandalism has remained a major challenge despite the Federal Government’s investments in rail projects, including the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge lines, with security agencies warning that the destruction of rail assets continues to increase maintenance costs and undermine national development efforts.
