NURTW CRISIS: BARUWA’S LAWYER SEEKS MC OLUOMO’S ARREST, DEMANDS ENFORCEMENT OF COURT RULINGS

The legal team of Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa has demanded the arrest of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and called for the enforcement of court rulings affirming Baruwa as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

At a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Baruwa’s counsel, Tolu Babaleye, stated that his client was lawfully elected and had obtained judgments from the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal confirming his leadership. He alleged that enforcement of the rulings had been delayed for over two years, prompting Baruwa to take possession of the union’s national secretariat on March 23, 2026.

Babaleye said, “There was no resistance. There was no violence. This was not an act of thuggery; it was an act of legal self-help born out of the frustration of a man whose rights had been trampled upon despite possessing valid court judgments.”

He further alleged that the Nigeria Police Force, instead of enforcing the judgments against the illegal occupants, arrested Baruwa and charged him with public disturbance, a move he described as “baseless.”

The lawyer added that on March 24, 2026, security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, and Civil Defence Corps, escorted MC Oluomo into the NURTW National Office, in what he described as contempt of court.

Babaleye called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Inspector-General of Police to enforce the court rulings, arrest the unlawful occupants, and restore Baruwa to his position.

The move comes amid an ongoing leadership dispute within the NURTW, with Akinsanya insisting he remains president, claiming that the judgments cited by Baruwa are under further legal challenge.

Court documents, however, confirm that both the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal recognised Baruwa as the duly elected president and restrained interference in his leadership.
