NYSC ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER VERIFICATION EXERCISE FOR FOREIGN-TRAINED GRADUATES

The National Youth Service Corps has announced the dates for the physical verification of academic credentials and travel documents belonging to Nigerian graduates who obtained their qualifications from institutions outside the country.

The exercise is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, September 8, to Saturday, September 12, 2026, and is specifically for foreign-trained prospective corps members whose credentials and travel documents have not yet undergone physical verification. The exercise forms part of preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I service year.

The NYSC directed affected prospective corps members to appear strictly on the date, time and at the venue stated on their individual verification slips. The scheme said adherence to the assigned schedules is necessary to ensure an orderly exercise and prevent unnecessary congestion at the various centres.

The verification will be conducted at nine locations spread across different parts of the country. The designated centres are the NYSC Secretariat on Abakaliki Road in GRA, Enugu; Shadawanka Military Barracks in Bauchi; the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja; and Bukavu Military Barracks along Airport Road in Fagge, Kano.

Other centres are the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos; the NYSC Secretariat on New Ikirun Road in Osogbo, Osun State; the NYSC Secretariat on Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State; Eagle Officers’ Mess at Giginya Cantonment along Gusau Road in Sokoto; and the NYSC Secretariat at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Yola, Adamawa State.

Prospective corps members attending the exercise are expected to come with the original versions of all academic credentials and travel documents they uploaded, or are required to upload, during their online registration. The NYSC stressed that photocopies or documents that cannot be properly verified will not substitute for the required originals.

Foreign-trained medical graduates have additional documentation requirements. They are expected to present their professional licences, registration certificates and other relevant documents issued by the appropriate professional regulatory bodies alongside their academic credentials.

The NYSC also instructed affected graduates to submit original Evaluation Letters issued by the Federal Ministry of Education at the NYSC Headquarters in Abuja. Acknowledged copies of the letters are also required to be uploaded through the online platform as part of the verification process.

The scheme warned that physical attendance and successful clearance are crucial to the mobilisation process. According to the NYSC, only prospective corps members who are physically present with their credentials, successfully verified and cleared by the designated officials will be considered for deployment, exemption or exclusion from the national service scheme.

The requirement is part of the NYSC's established verification procedure for Nigerian graduates who studied abroad. The scheme maintains that foreign-trained graduates must have their credentials and relevant travel documents physically examined before their status within the national service programme can be finalised.

The NYSC therefore advised all affected prospective corps members to carefully check their verification slips and prepare all required original documents ahead of their scheduled appearance. Failure to comply with the verification requirements could affect their deployment or the issuance of the appropriate NYSC documentation.

With the exercise beginning on September 8, foreign-trained graduates participating in the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I mobilisation are expected to make adequate arrangements to report at their assigned centres and complete the process within the stipulated period.
