NYSC KIDNAP: POLICE LOCATE ABDUCTORS’ CAMP, DELAY RAID OVER IEDS
Security forces pin down hideout of gunmen holding prospective corps members hostage
Police authorities have successfully pinpointed the forest hideout where kidnappers are holding the recently abducted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, but have temporarily delayed a full-scale tactical raid due to safety hazards.
According to security chiefs, aerial surveillance and drone tracking successfully mapped out the exact coordinates of the criminal camp where the victims are being kept.
However, intelligence reports revealed a major tactical hurdle: the surrounding terrain and pathways leading into the camp have been heavily mined with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by the abductors.
Law enforcement commanders noted that rushing into the booby-trapped location prematurely would risk catastrophic casualties among both the hostages and the rescue operatives.
In response to the complex situation, tactical teams are mobilizing specialized heavy-duty equipment, including armored personnel carriers (APCs) and bulldozers, to safely clear paths and breach the fortified perimeter.
The high-stakes operation follows the recent ambush of commercial buses traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in the South-East and South-South regions.
The Inspector-General of Police has heightened the urgency of the rescue mission by deploying a Deputy Inspector-General of Police and senior commanders to coordinate operations on the ground in Imo State.
Families of the abducted graduates continue to face immense psychological anguish amidst ongoing multi-million-naira ransom demands, even as security agencies reassure the public that a cautious, calculated rescue effort is underway.
Authorities have appealed for public calm and cooperation while specialized units finalize preparations to storm the stronghold and free the captives safely.
