Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan are scheduled to inaugurate the National Assembly Christian Chapel in Abuja on March 1.

The announcement was made in a statement co-signed by the President of the Christian Legislators Fellowship, Senator Binus Yaroe (PDP-Adamawa), and the Secretary, Rep. Bamidele Salam (PDP-Osun), on Wednesday.

The statement confirmed that former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will also attend the dedication of the 750-seat chapel.

Other notable dignitaries expected at the event include the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh; President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Francis Oke; and Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, among others.

“The dedication of the chapel marks a new chapter in fostering spiritual fellowship among Christian legislators and staff. The ceremony will bring together prominent Christian leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries for a moment of thanksgiving and spiritual reflection,” the statement said.

The non-denominational chapel project was initiated in May 2019 under the leadership of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara. It was conceived as a dedicated space for worship, fellowship, and prayer for Christian lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly.

The chapel is expected to serve as a spiritual hub, promoting unity, moral reflection, and faith-based support within the legislative community.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
