OGUN LG BACKS DANGOTE DEEP SEAPORT, SEEKS JOBS FOR INDIGENES

The Ogun Waterside Local Government has expressed support for the proposed Dangote Deep Seaport, while calling on the Dangote Group to prioritise qualified indigenes in its recruitment for the project.

The Executive Chairman of the council, AbdulGaniyu Odunnoiki, made the commitment during a stakeholders’ meeting involving representatives of the Dangote Group, traditional rulers, community leaders, and government officials.

Odunnoiki said the project could transform the local economy by accelerating industrialisation, creating jobs, and positioning Ogun Waterside as a major logistics and maritime hub.

He also urged residents and traditional institutions to maintain peace and unity, stressing that a stable environment would be important for attracting investment and ensuring sustainable development.

Representing the Dangote Group, Dr Sulaimon Ibrahim said the company remained committed to responsible investment and meaningful engagement with host communities. He added that agreements reached with communities would be honoured and affected persons would be compensated in line with established standards.

The lawmaker representing Ogun Waterside Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Samsideen Lawal, also urged the company to give qualified indigenes opportunities in both technical and management positions.

Stakeholders agreed to maintain regular dialogue and hold further town hall meetings as the project progresses, with the proposed seaport expected to strengthen Nigeria’s export capacity and regional trade links.
