The Ogun State Police Command has honoured 39 serving and retired officers for their distinguished service and contributions to policing.

The awards were presented by the state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, during a ceremony held on Monday at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.

The honourees included five retired officers and 34 serving officers. Ojajuni said the recognition was part of efforts to appreciate officers who had demonstrated dedication and sacrifice in protecting lives and property.

Among the retired officers honoured were former SWAT Commander, CSP Salami Murphy; DSP Olaifa Emmanuel; DSP Ayanlola Olatunji; DST Saanu Johnson; and DST Anifat Bello, the well-known Abeokuta traffic officer who retired in August.

Some of the serving officers recognised included the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, SP Shittu Bamidele, as well as SP Gbenga Ademola, SP Balogun Sherrif, ASP Olupona Helen and ASP Jimoh Lasisi.

Ojajuni said serving in the police for decades was demanding because of the pressure, risks and sacrifices involved. He added that recognising retired officers would encourage serving personnel to remain committed to their duties.

The commissioner urged officers to go beyond their routine responsibilities and make extra efforts in their assignments, noting that exceptional service would eventually be recognised.

Responding on behalf of the retirees, CSP Salami Murphy thanked the command for the honour and said retirement had not ended their willingness to serve.

Murphy described Ojajuni as a father, mentor and caregiver and assured the Ogun State Police Command, the Nigeria Police Force and the country that the retired officers remained available whenever their services were needed.
