The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Ijebu-Igbo area of the state.

Kamula was arrested by operatives attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division following a report concerning the alleged sexual assault. The police said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to investigate the incident and bring everyone connected to the case to justice.

According to the police, the alleged incident involved Kamula and at least one other suspect. While Kamula has been taken into custody, the other suspect reportedly fled and remains wanted by the authorities as investigations continue.

The police have also commenced steps to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegation. A medical form was issued to the 19-year-old victim to enable her to undergo medical examination at a hospital as part of the investigation.

The development was included in the Nigeria Police Force's latest report on operational activities carried out between September 1 and 2, 2026. The Force said the case, like other sexual-offence cases recorded during the period, remains under investigation by the appropriate State Criminal Investigation Department.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and determine the full circumstances of the alleged attack. Investigators are expected to gather evidence and obtain statements from relevant persons as the case progresses.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the identity of the victim, while the allegations against Kamula remain subject to investigation. His arrest does not in itself establish guilt, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in court.

The Ogun State Police Command has continued to urge members of the public to provide useful information that can assist investigators in locating suspects who evade arrest and in strengthening the response to reported cases of sexual violence.

The latest arrest adds to a series of police investigations into sexual offences across Ogun State, with authorities continuing to stress the importance of prompt reporting and proper investigation of allegations involving vulnerable persons.
