In a dramatic turn of events, operatives from the Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued Mrs. Odumosu, a kidnap victim, during a high-stakes operation in the swampy creeks of Ikorodu. The operation, conducted on January 23, 2025, at approximately 6:45 am, was spearheaded by the anti-kidnapping unit with support from Force Headquarters’ technical intelligence platforms.

The abduction, which occurred earlier this week, had sparked swift action from law enforcement. Leveraging extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering around the Arepo area, the operatives zeroed in on the kidnappers’ hideout. According to a statement from the Force Headquarters, the assailants were reportedly planning their next attack when the police launched their raid.

Upon arrival at the creek, the operatives encountered fierce resistance as the kidnappers opened fire. In the ensuing gunfight, two of the suspects were neutralized, while four others managed to flee, abandoning their weapons and other items. Despite the tense standoff, Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed and immediately taken for a medical evaluation as a precaution. She has since been reunited with her family.

The police recovered a significant cache of weapons from the scene, including four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, assorted ammunition, and the N10 million ransom that had been demanded by the kidnappers. The success of this operation underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combat violent crimes and ensure the safety of citizens.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their bravery and strategic execution of the operation. “This operation exemplifies the dedication and resilience of our police officers,” the IGP stated, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to eradicating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the nation.

The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public of ongoing efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent future criminal activities in the region. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
