Residents of Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have appealed to the state government to urgently address poor road conditions and unstable electricity supply in the area, describing the situation as a major setback to daily living and economic activities.

The call was made by the Itesiwaju Omu Arogun Area Community Development Committee during its 3rd Annual General Meeting held in Mowe, where residents, community leaders, and government representatives reviewed the community’s challenges and progress in 2025.

Speaking at the meeting, the chairman of the committee, Pastor Yemi Adebisi, expressed deep concern over the abandoned Mowe–Ofada Road, noting that the uncompleted project has worsened movement, trade, and access to essential services. He appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to fulfil earlier promises to complete the road, stressing that residents can no longer cope with the hardship caused by its poor condition.

Adebisi also raised concerns about the lack of a designated motor garage in the area, warning that roadside loading and parking along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway pose serious risks to lives and property. He further criticised what he described as ineffective waste management, citing the absence of a public incinerator and calling for better sanitation solutions.

On electricity challenges, residents complained of irregular power supply despite higher tariffs. Responding, the IBEDC Distribution Technical Manager for Mowe Hub, Shobukola Babatunde, assured the community that improvements in electricity distribution would soon be noticed and urged residents to remain patient.

Other concerns raised at the meeting included the poor state of internal roads linking Mowe to the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and alleged multiple taxation by some officials, which residents said was increasing their financial burden.

Reviewing the committee’s activities for the year, Adebisi highlighted achievements such as leadership trainings, participation in zonal CDC engagements, and several community-driven projects, including the construction of a community hall, installation of CCTV cameras, road grading, and streetlight repairs.

A resident, Oluyimika Ayoola, also appealed for urgent government intervention, particularly on the Mowe market road, which he described as nearly impassable and a source of hardship for traders and commuters.

Representing the Ogun State Government, Alhaja Taibat Abbas commended the community for its unity and commitment to development, assuring residents that their concerns had been noted and would be communicated to the appropriate authorities.

The meeting ended with the presentation of awards to individuals and groups who contributed significantly to community development, as residents renewed their call for stronger collaboration between the government and grassroots communities to resolve long-standing infrastructural challenges in Mowe.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
