OGUN TRADERS RECEIVE BRIEFING ON NEW TAX REFORMS
Traders and business owners in Ogun State have received detailed briefings on the recent tax reforms introduced by the Federal Government, as part of efforts to enhance compliance and ease the burden of multiple taxation.
The sensitisation programme, organised by the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) in collaboration with the state Ministry of Commerce and Industry, drew hundreds of market leaders and small business operators across major commercial hubs in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Sagamu.
OGIRS Executive Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Adesina, explained key provisions of the new reforms, including the streamlining of tax processes, introduction of digital payment platforms, and clearer guidelines on eligible deductions. “The reforms are designed to make taxation simpler, fairer, and more transparent for our hardworking traders,” he said.
Participants were educated on the benefits of voluntary compliance, such as access to government support schemes and protection from arbitrary levies. The session also addressed common challenges faced by informal sector operators and provided avenues for feedback and registration.
Traders’ associations commended the initiative, describing it as a welcome step towards reducing the cost of doing business in the state. Many pledged to cascade the information to their members and embrace the new framework.
The briefing forms part of a statewide campaign to align local businesses with national tax policies aimed at boosting revenue generation while supporting economic growth.
