OGUN TRUCK DRIVERS SEEK INTERVENTION IN LEADERSHIP DISPUTE
Truck drivers in Ogun State have appealed to the state government to intervene in a leadership dispute within their association and prevent the situation from escalating.
The Unified Truck Owners and Drivers Association made the appeal during a press conference in Abeokuta, where its leaders rejected the emergence of Moruf Bello, popularly known as Kaka, as chairman.
The association described Bello as an impostor and insisted that Chief Isiaka Bamidele remained its recognised chairman.
Its leaders said the association had operated peacefully and warned that a prolonged leadership dispute could create tension among members.
Secretary of the association and President of the First Nigerian Tipper and Lorry Drivers Association, Chief Nureni Ogunsola, urged the government and other stakeholders to intervene.
Another leader, Alhaji Lateef Raimi, called on members to remain calm and resolve their differences through dialogue.
Bello, when contacted, declined to comment on the allegations, saying the government would decide the matter.
The association subsequently appealed for prompt government intervention to preserve peace and unity among truck drivers in the state.
