OJUDE OBA FESTIVAL TO HOLD DESPITE AWUJALE’S PASSING ORGANISERS
Organisers of the annual Ojude Oba Festival have confirmed that the cultural celebration will go ahead as planned, despite the transition of the Awujale of Ijebuland, the traditional ruler central to the event.
The announcement was made following consultations with stakeholders involved in the planning of the festival, which remains one of the most prominent cultural gatherings in Ogun.
According to the organisers, the decision reflects a commitment to preserving the long-standing cultural heritage and unity associated with the festival, which attracts indigenes, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts from within and outside Nigeria.
They noted that while the passing of the Awujale is a significant moment for the Ijebu people, the festival will continue in honour of tradition and the enduring legacy of the royal institution.
Ojude Oba is widely recognised as a symbol of cultural pride, showcasing elaborate displays of horse-riding, fashion, music, and communal celebration among different age groups and families.
Organisers added that necessary cultural protocols will be observed during the event in line with traditions guiding the Ijebu monarchy.
The festival is expected to draw large crowds as preparations continue, with stakeholders emphasising unity and respect for the royal transition.
