Nigerian football icon Jay-Jay Okocha has shared words of advice for Victor Osimhen, as discussions around the striker’s next career move continue to gather momentum following his stellar season with Galatasaray, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

In an interview with Turkish outlet TRT Spor, as reported by Haberler, the former Fenerbahçe star encouraged Osimhen to weigh the emotional and professional fulfillment he has found in Turkey, suggesting that remaining at Galatasaray might be a smart decision—even if it requires personal compromises.

“Turkey is a fantastic place to live and play football,” Okocha remarked.
“Sometimes, sacrifices are necessary in football. Osimhen had a phenomenal season with Galatasaray and he’s clearly happy there. Why shouldn’t he stay? I love Turkey—and he does too.”

Osimhen, who wrapped up a remarkable loan spell from Napoli, netted his 37th goal of the season in Galatasaray’s 2–0 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on Saturday, capping off a campaign that saw the club clinch both league and cup titles.

Although Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk admitted uncertainty over the striker’s future, he commended Osimhen’s impact and expressed hope that he will continue with the squad. In a show of affection, Galatasaray fans have launched a worldwide #staywithus campaign, even featuring a billboard in New York’s Times Square to convince the Nigerian star to remain in Istanbul.

While Osimhen has not made a public statement about his future, reports suggest that his agent has been presented with a new contract offer from Galatasaray worth €15 million annually—a €3 million increase from his current deal—potentially making him the club’s highest-paid player ever. Asked whether he had any insight into Osimhen’s plans, Okocha said he had no insider knowledge. “I don’t know,” he replied. “But wherever he chooses to go, I wish him success.”

Reflecting on his own time in Turkey, Okocha described his two years at Fenerbahçe (1996–1998) as “wonderful,” reminiscing about the passionate fans and local cuisine. He wrapped up his comments with a tribute to his former club: “The greatest is Fener.”
