OKPEBHOLO LAUNCHES SPECIAL TASK FORCE TO COMBAT KIDNAPPING AND CULTISM IN EDO
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has inaugurated a new security initiative titled Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, aimed at tackling the growing threat of insecurity across the state.
The governor, while unveiling the operation on Sunday, also approved the creation of a special squad dedicated to eliminating the activities of kidnappers and cultists endangering public safety.
According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the initiative is a strategic move spearheaded by the Principal Security Officer (PSO) to the governor and will be jointly coordinated by the PSO and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) at the Government House.
Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, reaffirmed his administration’s firm stance against violent crimes. “We will not allow criminality to dictate the future of our state. Edo must be safe again—for our children, for investors, and for citizens in the diaspora who wish to return and contribute,” he said.
He further disclosed that all security agencies across the state have been placed on high alert.
The governor has instructed the PSO and CSO to oversee the full execution of the operation, emphasizing the importance of accountability, professionalism, and active community involvement.
The newly formed squad will comprise thoroughly vetted individuals, including reformed cultists, local hunters, and vigilante members. These personnel will be organized into local units within each local government area to ensure swift and community-based responses to security threats.
