Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo have called on the party leadership to prioritise credible and electable candidates ahead of upcoming political contests.

The elders made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting, stressing the need for unity, internal democracy, and careful candidate selection to strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.

They warned that imposition of unpopular candidates could undermine the party’s performance and deepen internal divisions.

According to them, the APC must focus on individuals with strong grassroots support, proven track records, and the ability to connect with voters across different communities.

Party leaders at the meeting reportedly agreed on the importance of reconciliation and consensus-building to avoid post-primary conflicts.

The call comes amid early political manoeuvring within the party as stakeholders position themselves ahead of future elections in Nigeria.

Observers say the party’s ability to manage internal disagreements will be crucial to its electoral success in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
