ONDO COMMUNITY SUPPORTS FUTA MEDICAL TRAINING WITH HOSTEL AND LAB
Indigenes of Akure in Ondo State have donated a 50-bed hostel and an ultra-modern medical laboratory to the College of Health Sciences of the Federal University of Technology Akure to strengthen medical training and support its teaching hospital programme.
The facilities were inaugurated on Wednesday as part of efforts to boost the university’s newly established medical school and improve learning conditions for students.
Community leader, Olufemi Oyinsan, said the donation was part of a broader push to ensure the success of the FUTA teaching hospital project, noting that strong medical training infrastructure was essential for accreditation.
He acknowledged the contributions of several stakeholders, including elder statesman Reuben Fasoranti and NDDC executive director Sunday Abegunde, who reportedly supported the project significantly.
Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Adenike Oladiji, expressed appreciation to donors and said the new facilities would improve the quality of medical training and help the institution meet accreditation requirements set by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
She noted that the MBBS programme, launched in 2021, faced initial infrastructure challenges, which are now being addressed through collaboration between the university, the state government, and the Akure community.
The Deji of Akure, Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, also stressed the importance of proper training for future medical professionals, saying the success of the teaching hospital depends on producing qualified graduates.
