The Ondo Kingdom is in mourning following the passing of its Traditional Prime Minister, Simeon Olusola Oguntimehin, who died peacefully on March 30, 2026, at the age of 90.

The announcement was made by his family through his daughter, Mrs. Omonike Omonubi, who described his death as a peaceful transition after a life dedicated to service, integrity, and leadership.

Until his passing, Oguntimehin held the highly respected title of Lisa (Traditional Prime Minister) of Ondo Town, where he served as a key adviser in the traditional council and played a vital role in preserving the customs and heritage of the kingdom.

Widely known as Lisa Fiwagboye, he was admired for his wisdom, humility, and commitment to both traditional and modern governance.
“He lived a fulfilled life marked by integrity, humility, and unwavering dedication,” his family stated.

Beyond his traditional role, Oguntimehin was a distinguished professional. He served as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria from 1995 to 1996, where he championed ethical standards and reforms within the accounting profession.

His contributions to national development extended further. He was a board member of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission between 2007 and 2011, helping to strengthen transparency and accountability in public institutions.

In 1978, he also made history as the first Chairman of the Ondo State Public Accounts Committee, laying the foundation for financial discipline in the newly created state.

A recipient of the national honour Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Oguntimehin was widely regarded as a bridge between tradition and professionalism, someone whose counsel was valued across different sectors.

Tributes have continued to pour in from traditional rulers, colleagues, and professional bodies, all describing him as a man of rare integrity and service.

His family has expressed gratitude for the support and condolences received, noting that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Nigeria has indeed lost a respected statesman whose legacy will be remembered for generations.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
