Youths in Ondo town have taken to the streets in a peaceful protest to demand an end to the rising wave of cult-related killings and drug abuse that has claimed the lives of at least 48 young people in recent months.

The protest, which took place in Ondo West Local Government Area, was led by the Ondo Kingdom Youth Forum, whose president, Engr. Kayode Folayegun, made a passionate appeal for justice and stronger action against those behind the violence.

“We can’t keep watching while our brothers and sisters are being killed. It’s time for real consequences. Let those responsible face the law,” Folayegun stated.

He also revealed that the youths are ready to play an active role in the fight against cultism by exposing perpetrators and discouraging others from joining criminal gangs.

Supporting the movement, Joseph Akinlaja, a respected community leader and former federal lawmaker, praised the youths for taking a stand. He urged them to stay committed to promoting peace, unity, and development, while resisting the temptation to join criminal groups.

“This fight is about protecting our future,” Akinlaja said. “Choose the right path. Say no to cultism and drug abuse.”

The protest comes as the community grows increasingly concerned about the safety of young people in the town. Many residents are now calling on security agencies and the government to intervene and restore peace.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
