At least one person has reportedly lost their life following a violent clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Awoyaya area of Lagos State.

The unrest, captured in multiple videos shared on the Telegram channel Naija Confra, a platform that tracks cult-related incidents, caused widespread panic among residents as the confrontation intensified.

The violence reportedly started on Monday and continued into Tuesday, resulting in the death of a young man identified only as Pelebe.

A short clip showed the victim, dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt, lying on the ground and writhing in pain. Another video posted on Wednesday showed residents fleeing for safety while some bystanders recorded the chaos from a distance.

Graphic images also emerged showing another victim with a severe gunshot wound to the leg.

“Earlier today (Tuesday), we reported a serious cult clash in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki involving Eiye and Aiye, where killings occurred on Monday and Tuesday,” the post on Naija Confra partly read. It added that another person “was shot in the leg in the Iya Alagbo area” during a separate incident.

While unconfirmed reports suggested that security operatives had made arrests, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi told our correspondent she would “revert,” but no update had been provided at the time of filing this report.

This latest outbreak of violence comes less than two weeks after gunmen, believed to be members of rival cult groups, opened fire during the annual masquerade festival in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos State.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
