Tension has enveloped Atan-Ota in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State following a violent cult clash that claimed the life of a young man identified as Moses.

Residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the incident, alleged that members of the Aye Confraternity were responsible for the attack.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was linked to an ongoing supremacy battle between rival cult groups that has unsettled the community in recent weeks.

A disturbing video that surfaced on Monday showed the attackers hacking at Moses’ right wrist with machetes while chanting in Pidgin English, “we are the ones in charge.”

The victim was later seen lying face down and motionless as the assailants repeatedly struck him with cutlasses. Another clip showed his lifeless body with a mutilated wrist as grieving sympathizers gathered around in shock. In the background, one mourner could be heard crying out in Yoruba, “Moses, my God.”

When contacted on Monday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the killing, simply stating: “Yes.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
