Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) has handed over a large cache of arms and ammunition recovered from criminals to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).

The handover, which took place on Sunday, August 17, 2025, was carried out by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of OPSH, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.

According to OPSH’s spokesperson, Maj. Samson Nantip Zhakom, the weapons were seized during several security operations across Plateau State aimed at curbing violent crimes and illegal possession of firearms.

During the ceremony, Gen. Oyinlola stressed that the recovery of arms is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to end insecurity caused by the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in local communities. He urged citizens to support government initiatives by rejecting illegal arms and promoting peace.

He also highlighted that OPSH has made remarkable progress in reducing attacks on communities through both military action and dialogue-driven peace efforts.

 Breakdown of Recovered Items (2024–2025):

220 small arms and light weapons

1,874 rounds of ammunition

83 cartridges

The handover marks another step in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity and the push to build an arms-free society.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
